THE STORY

Where the Story Began

In 1969, my great-grandfather Roscoe Odom bought a Chevrolet C10 with an inline six-cylinder 250 engine and a three-speed on the column. It was his daily driver and the workhorse for Odom’s Woodworking.

As a kid, I remember riding through town beside him. Roscoe was tall and lanky—gentle, quiet, and steady. When he passed away in 1995, Ole Blue went to his oldest son, my grandfather Hubert Odom—Papa to me.

The truck mostly sat in Papa’s yard, except for occasional trips to the landfill. Oddly enough, those trips became some of my fondest memories. When I got my driver’s license, Papa let me drive Ole Blue to high school. The paint was faded, the wood bed was gone, and by any normal definition she was not cool. But she had soul.

Twenty Years in the Barn

Ole Blue eventually came to me and sat quietly in my barn for more than twenty years. I talked about restoring her, but the cost never made sense. Life rolled on. I got married, raised three children, and stayed consumed with everyday responsibilities.

Every now and then, one of my sons would ask, “Dad, why haven’t you fixed up Ole Blue?” My answer was always the same: “Because you’re expensive!”

God’s Perfect Timing

Something changed when I began writing You Are The Man. Ole Blue’s story became part of the book and part of the message of family legacy. Not long afterward, a friend connected me with Luis, who told me he wanted to take on a restoration project.

The timing, the story, and the connection were too perfect to dismiss. After more than two decades of waiting, Ole Blue was finally restored. Today I am blessed to drive her and share her—not simply for nostalgia, but as a way to share my story, my faith, and God’s faithfulness.

Ole Blue isn’t just a truck. She is a symbol of legacy, restoration, and God’s perfect timing.
